Visit our Summer Programs page for more information on our many offerings for summer 2020, ranging from tried-and-true favorites to new programs we plan to pilot! Learn to sail, increase your skills, race up and down the Bay, or simply spend more time on the water.
Check out our dedicated High School Sailing page for more information on our fall and spring scholastic sailing program. Whether you want to learn to sail or aim for nationals, anyone with a desire to learn is welcome on the team!
A new program in spring 2019, After-School Adventure gets elementary- and middle-school aged students on the water, even before school ends for the summer! Students sail 3 afternoons a week during the 3-4 week session between the end of our high school competitive program and the start of our summer activities.
REACH is a US Sailing initiative to bring STEM-in-Sailing topics to middle school students. SCC has been involved with this program since fall 2018. Currently we are partnered with two local middle schools and are reaching out to several more in the near future. SCC instructors provide 4-5 sessions of classroom instruction in different STEM topics, then culminate each season with a field trip for students to experience sailing firsthand.
Since 2011, SCC has partnered with the Great Mills High School STEM Academy for a year's-end immersion into the science behind sailing. Each year, the sophomore class receives a day of classroom instruction in the scientific fundamentals of sailing, then experiences 3 days learning to sail our FJ dinghies at SCC.
Each year, SCC hosts several different Boy, Girl, and Sea Scout outings for Learn-to-Sail activities. On an individual basis, we have hosted troops for a day or a weekend campout event. Some come to work on the Small Boat Sailing merit badge, or just for a fun activity. Weekend plans allow for plenty of schedule flexibility in the school year or during the summer.
As we work to grow our outreach ability, we are always looking for the next step! Last year, we manned a display booth at the Pax River STEM Expo to introduce visitors to a sailing simulator app. What's next for us? If you have an idea for how to spread our love of sailing, please contact us to let us know!
