Choose one of two tracks for racing:

Find a friend to sail with, or meet someone new! Handle an exciting spinnaker and trapeze setup on a doublehanded club420...

...Or choose to chart your own course on a responsive, demanding singlehanded Laser Radial!

Step 1: enroll in our racing clinic

We have several options to complete our mandatory one-week orientation and learn-to-race clinic.
Two full-day courses for club 420s will take place June 22-26, and June 29-July 3. Evening clinics on the same dates will take place for Laser Radials, and one evening clinic for 420s will run from June 29-July 3.
This week will teach you how to rig your chosen boat, give you practice packing it for travel regattas, and introduce you to the unique methods to make it go fast on the water! Whether you intend to continue racing through the summer or not, this clinic will be an excellent window to performance sailing beyond the scholastic scene.

Step 2: Keep sailing all summer

Once you have completed a clinic, you have the fundamentals, but need to keep practicing to increase your skills! Racing practices will be held regularly from July 6th through August 14th in our various boats. Typically, Lasers and 420s will practice separately.

Step 3: Go to regattas!

CBYRA Junior Sailing has a full schedule of events this summer, for all skill levels! Below is a calendar of the regattas which for which SCC plans to provide coaching support:

July 10th at Maryland Yacht Club
July 13th at Gibson Island Yacht Squadron
July 15th-16th at Baltimore County Sailing Center
July 18th-19th at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club
July 24th team race event at Annapolis Yacht Club
August 4th First-Year Racers at Rock Hall Yacht Club
August 6th at Miles River Yacht Club
August 8th-9th at Tred Avon Yacht Club

Many of these events are close in location as well as time, making it possible to plan a big racing week of a few regattas plus a location practice day!
