The Southern Maryland Sailing Foundation, founded in 1999, is a charitable corporation that supports youth and community sailing in Southern Maryland. It provides capital equipment for organized junior instruction, high school racing, and other sail training programs.

Sailing Center Chesapeake is the face of the Foundation, performing the day-to-day operations of teaching, coaching, and racing using the assets provided by the Foundation.

The Foundation seeks continuous contributions to expand and upgrade its fleet of small sailboats and coach boats, maintain its equipment and programs, and fill the salary of its few paid employees. It is recognized as a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) by the IRS and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
